Our movement room is fully equipped to support children physical development with a range of inspiring resources, including climbing equipment, soft play, trampoline and a ball pit! We also use our movement room as part of our sensory integration, supporting children’s physiotherapy plans and social skills and interaction.

Sensory Needs and Interventions

Sensory Needs

Sensory Processing Disorder is a neurophysiological condition in which sensory input is poorly detected or interpreted and (or) to which atypical responses are observed. People with SPD often struggle to stay in the calm and/or alert status and will spend more time in the low and/or high level of arousal

Seeker or Avoider?

  • A sensory seeker seeks sensory input
  • A sensory avoider will avoid sensory input

Sensory Profile

As Sensory Needs Practitioners, we complete a sensory profile for the children and try to discover the sensory processing difficulties causing the problem. We then identify the correct interventions to put in pace and meet the child’s sensory needs.

Sensory Diet

A sensory diet is very similar to a food diet, but involves our senses. It is a balanced diet of touch, movement, visual input, auditory input, olfactory input and oral input. Just like a food diet, individuals may struggle processing one or more particular sense. Therefore encouraging and exposing the individual to a varied sensory diet, can improve the processing of that sense

Sensory Circuit

A sensory circuit is a short and snappy sensory motor skill programme that helps to set children up for a school day or to help self-regulate them. The circuit also encourages the development of the child’s sensory processing skills. Many children can benefit from attending a Sensory Circuit, even for a short period of time.

Practitioners

Our amazing team are all accredited Sensory Needs Practitioners. Their role within supporting children’s sensory needs is to identify children in need of sensory intervention, write sensory diets, plan and carry out sensory circuits and assess children’s sensory development.
